How can EFT Tapping help me with grief after cancer or the loss of a loved one?

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a gentle, evidence-based approach that helps reduce the emotional intensity of grief and stress associated with life changing events by calming the nervous system and processing painful memories in a calmer and easier way. Whether you're grieving a loved one lost to cancer, supporting a loved one through cancer,  experiencing grief in your own cancer experience or are a cancer survivor and not sure how to live life fully again, EFT can help you release feelings like sadness, guilt, overwhelm, and fear and much more.  It's completely safe, evidence based and you will learn techniques that you can apply yourself as well. 


Tapping on specific meridian points during sessions helps the body and mind reconnect to experience calmer states, regulating stress, reducing intense feelings and sensations and giving your grief space to move, rather than be held in overwhelm.

It’s not about forgetting -  it’s about gently allowing the experience of grief in a safe and natural way from within.

2. How many EFT tapping sessions do I need?

That's entirely up to you.  Some people want to learn the basics, what's called the EFT basic protocol with some tweaks that they can do for themselves at home.  Other's need support to reduce effects from key events that continue to be bothersome, like 'hearing about cancer' for the first time or 'getting anxious every time there's a scan or review' or 'seeing their loved on in pain'.  Grief is completely unique to each individual and so too is EFT tapping.  I tailor sessions to your individual needs and in each session I give you techniques that you can apply at home so you feel empowered to regain in  your life, regardless of your circumstances. 

3.  Is Matrix Reimprinting better than EFT tapping to support my stress and grief? 

Matrix Reimprinting blends the power of EFT tapping with belief reconstruction.  During stressful moments in life, like a cancer diagnoses or the death of a loved one, there is always a belief running in the background, like "I'm unsafe" or "I'm not strong enough"  or "I'm not strong enough".  These unconscious beliefs held in our subsconscious mind shape our present day emotions, thoughts and sensations.    

 

While EFT tapping helps to reduce the stress, emotions, thoughts and sensations that occur during stressful events or that arise in the body and mind, like pain, Matrix Reimprinting works with the subconscious mind to transform beliefs that are directy shaping these experiences.   

 

.Matrix Reimprinting is an incredibly powerful approach for people dealing with grief, particularly during a cancer experience, after a cancer experience, beyond a cancer experience or during a cancer loss because it allows you to safely examine which beliefs are influencing your present day experience.  to emotionally charged moments (e.g., diagnosis, hospital visits, the final goodbye and the what now moments) and shift how beliefs formed during those moments like "this is the end" are being held in your body and mind.

The subconscious mind holds hidden library of that keep you stuck in stress, old patterns and thoughts that can prevent you from experience life in a meaninful way.

I’m caring for someone with cancer and I feel overwhelmed. Can EFT Tapping or Matrix Reimprinting or Reiki help?

Yes. Caregiver grief is often invisible and incredibly stressful. You may feel emotionally exhausted, anxious, always thinking about what's coming next, struggling with daily demands and schedules and grieving in advance. I specialize in anticipatory grief and cancer-related emotional stress and I've supported many caregivers to find ways to reclaim their energy through their experience.  As an oncology social worker I've seen first-hand how much stress carers go through and there's lots that can be done, in small ways, to keep your stress at bay so you can be at your best and in your best in support of your loved one.  


EFT tapping, Matrix Reimprinting, and  Reiki, are wonderful tools to help you manage stress, to  calm your nervous system, and process the waves of fear, helplessness and grief that arise at different times. You don’t have to carry this burden on your own and my encouragement is that you put your needs in the mix.

How is Grief Tapping different to traditional talk therapy with a counsellor?

​

Grief tapping uses the body—not just words. While talk therapy explores your story, EFT accesses the emotional charge stored in your nervous system. It’s ideal for those who feel stuck, shut down, or unable to move forward emotionally despite “understanding” their loss.  It's also a technique that can be used to compliment any therapeutic work done with a therapist or counsellor.

Can I do Tapping for Grief on my own or do I need the support of a practitioner?

Both! Many people start with self-tapping scripts or videos they can follow online, which is great in the beginning when learning the tapping points, however they don't have long lasting effects as the work is generalized and won't speak to the specific needs of individuals.  Grief is unique to each individual so working with a certified EFT practitioner for deeper healing allows you to specifically address areas in your grief experience that are bothersome. In addition, specific events, like hearing from your doctor that you have cancer, or about the death of a loved one can often replay in your mind and intensify grief experiences even more.  Working with a clinical EFT practitioner that specializes in grief and loss 

can help you move through complex emotions and events more safely and effectively and bring longer lasting changes in your body, mind, emotions and more.
