From Grief Overwhelm to Grief Healing with Matrix Reimprinting

Scrabble tiles on slate spell "SHIFT HAPPENS.", a reminder of the power of Matrix Reimprinting.

Are you caught in the crushing waves of grief that seem to intensify rather than subside? Does that deep-seated heartache creep in every time you think about your loss—a red-hot ball singing to the tune of "it's not meant to be like this"?

There's a profound reason for what you're experiencing, and it runs deeper than most realize. Your grief isn't just about the present loss—it's being amplified by layers of unresolved emotions and wounds quietly stored in your subconscious, operating like powerful background software that's controlling your experience.

Imagine being able to transform your most painful grief experiences into sources of profound understanding, strength, and personal transformation. In this article, I'll introduce you to a revolutionary approach that takes EFT tapping for grief to an entirely new dimension. It's called Matrix Reimprinting, and it holds the key to transforming your overwhelming grief into meaningful growth with remarkable clarity and ease.

Why Your Grief Feels So Overwhelming

Grief isn't simply an emotion—it's a complex, multilayered experience that permeates your entire being: body, mind, and soul. When grief arises, it can feel like it's rippling through every aspect of your existence. Sometimes, grief catches you in a relentless storm, where waves of emotion crash over you, leaving you gasping for air. Other times, the "well-intentioned" comments from others twist the knife deeper. While these moments might seem like part of grief's natural rollercoaster, from a Matrix Reimprinting perspective, there's a hidden architecture to your suffering waiting to be discovered and transformed.

When people tell me grief feels overwhelming, I affirm their experience with, "Yes, it absolutely is"—because you're carrying a heavy bag of grief-like stones collected throughout your lifetime, all weighing you down. So let me ask you: "Would you rather walk through life with a light, resourceful backpack that allows you to move freely, or would you prefer to struggle under a heavy rucksack that keeps you weighed down and stuck?"

When you begin to lighten this emotional load, you create energy and space to grieve naturally, without the crushing overwhelm.

The Hidden Truth: Grief Experiences Are NOT Created Equal

Think of your subconscious as a vast library of lifelong memories, emotions, and beliefs. During significant moments—especially traumatic ones like losing a loved one or receiving a cancer diagnosis—your subconscious actively stores the emotions, thoughts, sensations, and beliefs associated with those events. These become catalogs of stories held within your body, each ready to be "checked out" when activated.

There are stories for fear, stories for shock, stories for sadness, stress, overwhelm, and countless more. Within every story lies a central theme—a matrix of beliefs directing the energetic flow of that narrative. So when you experience a current surge of grief, like the intense yearning for your partner who is no longer with you, understand this: there's an entire collection of similar moments operating behind the scenes within you. All these collective grief-laden moments amplify the intensity of your present experience, which explains why your sensations and feelings can become so overwhelming.

Why Matrix Reimprinting Is Revolutionary for Grief Healing

Matrix Reimprinting represents an evolution beyond traditional Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and other energy-based healing modalities. It involves tapping into the "matrix" of your subconscious to discover which beliefs and emotions are truly running the show. Then, it allows you to re-craft those stories and beliefs in ways that foster safety, promote healing, and create empowerment.

Rather than merely alleviating grief reactions at the surface level, this approach transforms the underlying blueprint that has kept you locked in intense emotional patterns. From a Matrix Reimprinting perspective, grief feels overwhelmingly intense because it isn't simply a response to a single loss—it's often a reactivation of deeply ingrained, multi-layered imprints stored in your subconscious.

When working with clients in initial sessions, I guide them through a practice to experience this phenomenon firsthand. I call it discovering the 'energetic threads in the body.' This process helps people understand how the body stores information across a lifetime and reveals the healing opportunities that reside within them. Michael, a father of two young people, loving husband and engineer, came to me struggling with caring for his partner of 25 years who had stage 4 brain cancer. Michael was plagued by repetitive thoughts like "How can this be happening to us? Cancer has taken everything from us, it's not fair!" When I asked him to notice where this thinking resided in his body, he pointed to his stomach, describing the sensations as "a black jagged knife in his guts."

I asked if he wanted to understand the origins of this thought pattern—to determine whether it was truly a present-day response or something speaking from his past. With Michael's consent, I guided him through the "energetic threads" process. He quickly recalled two prior experiences: one at age 8 when his family was moving into a new home, and another at 15 when he experienced his first relationship breakdown. Michael was astonished at how quickly his body revealed this information and asked me "how this was possible?". I explained the body holds information from both past and present experiences, and he can harness that wisdom to find pathways to healing. This is precisely why I value body-centered practices like Matrix Reimprinting for grief work—because no single grief reaction is exactly what it appears on the surface.

The Body Truly Keeps Score

You've likely heard the phrase "the body keeps score"—it's a term coined by trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk in their groundbreaking book about how traumatic experiences remain held in the body. The grief you experience creates lasting physical and emotional imprints that your body remembers and responds to with each new triggering event. Your body holds memories of trauma, including loss, and depending on your perception of that loss, these memories can manifest as sensations, intense emotions, physical pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, chronic illness, and much more.

When examining what kinds of events can be stored in the body, the answer is simple: all of them—the good, the bad, and the ugly. During a Matrix Reimprinting session, you'll often hear me say, "Please don't dismiss anything your body reveals." That's because your body is the keeper of wisdom and holds the keys to your healing. Research confirms that grief lingers in the body long after the initial loss, held within your nervous system, cells, and beyond.*

Any loss can be experienced as traumatic, depending on what happens inside you when that loss occurs. According to Dr. Gabor Maté, trauma manifests as wounds held within, arising not just from major traumas like physical or emotional abuse, but also more subtly from any unmet need in childhood that forms an emotional wound and belief about yourself.*

"Trauma is not what happened to you,
but a result of what happened inside of you."
Dr Gabor Mate

From a Matrix Reimprinting perspective, it's the beliefs and perceptions formed about yourself or the world around you during these events that shape your energetic patterns and drive your behaviors and experiences.

Now consider how many moments of unmet needs you've already experienced throughout your lifetime - hundreds, if not thousands. Perhaps you missed out on getting your favorite toy while watching your sibling receive exactly what they wanted when you were six. Maybe you cut your hair short as a child and your peers at school told you it looked weird. While these moments might seem insignificant compared to a major trauma, like the death of a loved one or cancer diagnoses, through the eyes of a child experiencing such events, the internal bodily response can be creating a different experience. You may have developed beliefs like "I'm not good enough" or "I don't fit in," leading to a sense of isolation or shame. Fast forward to a present-day grief experience in which you're faced with making a major life decision, like whether to undergo chemotherapy, and suddenly, that childhood 'haircut' moment arises and befriends your current hair loss fears, sparking greater fear, isolation and more. All at once, a somewheat overwhelming sensation turns into alarm bells in your stomach that feels unbearable.

This is why I truly believe the gateway to healing already resides within you. You simply need the right approach to uncover the origins of your pain and suffering, along with techniques that will transform overwhelm into calm, centredness and growth.
